JILAF visited Hanoi in Vietnam from July 3 (Wednesday) to 7 (Sunday) for the SGRA project (Supporting Grass-Roots Activities through the International Employers’ and Workers’ Network), which JILAF is implementing with grants from the Japanese government (Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare). During the visit, the 2nd Dissemination Promotion Committee meeting of fiscal 2019, the 1st Training of Trainers Seminar, and a Life Support Seminar for informal-sector workers in Hanoi were held.
At the 2nd Dissemination Promotion Committee meeting on July 4, the participants further considered details of the pilot projects in Hanoi and Da Nang in the current fiscal year.
On July 5 the 1st Training of Trainers Seminar was held for members of the Hanoi Dissemination Working Committee and Da Nang Dissemination Working Committee. Lectures were heard from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) on the current state and issues of informal-sector workers in Vietnam and the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs on social security schemes applicable to informal-sector workers. The participants then divided into regional groups to compile and present concrete action plans.
On July 6 a Life Support Seminar, organized mainly by the Hanoi Dissemination Working Committee (consisting of representatives of the municipal government, labour, and management in Hanoi, as well as the transport and tourism bureaus), was held for 35 cyclo (three-wheeled bicycle taxi) drivers working at Hoan Kiem Lake, a major tourist attraction in Hanoi. Lectures were given on such topics as (1) basic traffic rules, (2) communication with foreign tourists, and (3) social security, helping the participants to gain useful information for the improvement of their livelihoods.
