Central Roundtable members

JILAF convened the first meeting of the Central Roundtable in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on May 11 , 2017, to confirm specific activities toward the start of the SGRA project (Supporting Grass-Roots Activities through the International Employers’ and Workers’ Network) in Bangladesh in the current fiscal year. A total of 14 people participated in the meeting, including representatives from the Bangladesh Council of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC-BC), the Bangladesh Employers’ Federation (BEF), and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
After an opening address by ITUC-BC President Mojibur Rahman Bhuiyan , JILAF Assistant Secretary General Ryo Saito reported, “Thanks to the devoted efforts of related persons, some notable achievements were made in fiscal 2016, including (1) a job fair for network members organized by the BEF, after which 40 network members found work; (2) the establishment and expansion of a total of six SGRA cooperatives in the SGRA districts and the implementation of cooperative-led occupational skill-development training; and (3) the networking of an ethnic minority group in Chittagong [the indigenous Mongolian Chakma tribe]. Together with you all, JILAF intends to work hard toward the further acceleration of independent and autonomous activities based on government, labour, and management unity.”

Next, looking back on the fiscal 2016 four-country meeting of government, labour, and management representatives held in Vientiane, Laos, the participants considered and engaged in intensive discussions on annual plans based on project plans confirmed at the fiscal 2016 national workshop, vocational training plans in the three districts of Bogra, Khulna, and Chittagong, and other matters, all of which were unanimously confirmed. Finally, closing the seminar, ITUC-BC Secretary-General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury summarized the discussions that had taken place and declared that all related parties would pool their efforts toward the further strengthening and development of the project in the current fiscal year.
