“Wage, Hours Worked, and Employment in 2022 – Real Wages Fall 0.9% -“

Average wage per person
(“Regular employees” are divided into “full-time employees” and “part-time employees”)
(1) Average total monthly cash earnings for regular employees were 326,157 yen (up 2.1%), of which scheduled cash earnings were 248,603 yen (up 1.2%), non-scheduled cash earnings (overtime pay) were 18,933 yen (up 5.0%), and special cash earnings were 58,621 yen (up 5.1%). Real wages (average total monthly cash earnings) fell 0.9% for the first decline in two years amid rising inflation. (The consumer price index was up 3.0% over the previous year.)
(2) Average total monthly cash earnings for full-time employees were 429,449 yen (up 2.3%), of which scheduled earnings were 318,904 yen (up 1.3%), non-scheduled cash earnings (overtime pay) were 26,359 yen (up 5.0%) and special cash earnings were 84,186 yen (up 5.5%).
(3) Average total monthly cash earnings for part-time employees were 102,073 yen (up 2.6%), of which scheduled cash earnings were 96,091 yen (up 2.2%) and non-scheduled cash earnings (overtime pay) were 2,823 yen (up 13.0%).
The average hourly wage for part-time employees was 1,242 yen (up 1.6%).
Average number of hours worked per person
(1) The average monthly total of hours actually worked by full-time employees was 162.3 hours (up 0.2%), of which the number of scheduled hours worked was 148.5 hours (down 0.2%).
(2) The average monthly total of hours actually worked by part-time employees was 79.6 hours (up 1.0%), of which the number of scheduled hours worked was 77.4 hours (up 0.7%).
Employment
(1) The regular employees index was 102.0 (up 0.9%). By employment pattern, the full-time employees index was 101.4 (up 0.5%) and the part-time employees index was 103.5 (up 1.9%).
