Non-English-Speaking Asia Youth Team
An online program was held for the Khmer-speaking unit from October 3 to October 7, and for the Bengali-speaking unit from October 17 to October 21.
The entire program was completed by six participants (including one woman) from Cambodia between October 3 and October 7, and by seven participants (including four women) from Bangladesh between October 17 and October 21. In total, the team consisted of thirteen participants (including five women) from two countries.
The team’s Khmer-speaking unit had an online session with RENGO Ibaraki, during which they listened to a presentation and exchanged opinions on the role and activities of locals of the trade union confederation, the labor situation at the prefectural level, and other such matters.
In addition, the Bengali-speaking unit had an online session with Rikkyo University, where they listened to a presentation on “Globalization and Industrial Relations” by Rikkyo University, then had a group discussion with students of the university.
The participants mainly proposed the following action plans.
(1) We will bring workers together and obtain legal recognition of Cambodia’s right to organize from 2023. (Cambodia)
(2) We will participate in tripartite meetings with unions, employers and the government to present issues faced by workers/employees, the government and employers and to discuss solutions that will benefit workers. (Cambodia)
(3) We will conduct a labor law development camp in our organization. Through forums, we will raise awareness about social security issues and think about what rights are given in social security issues. (Bangladesh)
(4) We will work on developing labor laws as the working class people in Bangladesh do not receive an education. (Bangladesh)
